How to make viral reels with AI: the 9-step system

A reel that goes viral isn't luck. It makes people stop, stay to the end and send it to a friend, and every one of those steps can be planned. Here's the system, with the exact things to ask Claude at each step.

Short answer: a viral reel makes people stop in the first second, stay to the end and send it to a friend. Use AI (Claude) for the slow parts: finding ideas that already worked, writing 10 hooks, a 40-second script, a shot list, captions and the post text. Then film, edit for watch time and read your numbers after 48 hours.

The 9 steps, from idea to posted reel

StepWhat you doAsk Claude
1 · IdeaPick from your idea bank: stop, show, send."10 ideas using these winning patterns."
2 · HookPick one of 10, read it aloud."10 hooks under 12 words, different patterns."
3 · Script90–120 words, the 4-part shape."Script, 40 s: hook, proof, 3 beats, ask."
4 · FactsCheck every number on official pages."List every fact and where to check it."
5 · Beat sheetOne picture per sentence."Words / screen / label, new shot every 2 s."
6 · FilmWindow light, eye level, quiet room."Shot list in filming order."
7 · EditCut pauses, captions, labels, music low."Check against the 10 checks."
8 · PostCaption, cover, pinned comment, reply."Caption: hook, facts, take, ask."
9 · LearnAfter 48 h: the 4 numbers."Why did this work, what to change."

Why the hook decides everything

Instagram and TikTok first show your reel to a small group. If they swipe away in the first second, it stops there. A hook is the first sentence and the first frame together: say the result or the surprise first ("I fired my video editor", "This game was made with one sentence"), and show it at the same time.

The 4-part script

  1. Hook (0–3 s): the result or the surprise.
  2. Proof (3–8 s): why it's true, on screen.
  3. Three beats (8–35 s): the steps, examples or facts, one picture each.
  4. Ask (last 3 s): one clear action, like "comment GUIDE".

Editing for watch time

Cut every pause, change the picture every 1–2 seconds, put captions on every word, add a label when you name a thing, and keep music low under the voice. A free editor works fine: see our free CapCut alternative.

Can AI make the whole reel?

Yes, with the right setup. Claude Code can research a topic with sources, write and voice the script, cut every shot on its word, add captions, music and sound effects, and check every frame before you see it. That's exactly what Reel Studio packages for you.

Questions

How long should a reel be?

For most topics 30 to 60 seconds: long enough for a hook, proof and three beats, short enough that people watch to the end.

Can I make reels with AI for free?

Yes. Claude's free plan can write ideas, hooks, scripts and captions, and a free editor like OpenCut handles cuts, text and music.

Do AI-made reels get less reach?

Platforms reward original, useful videos. Use AI for research, scripting and editing, add your own voice or take, and label AI-generated people or voices where the platform asks.
