Claude + Unity: how to set up the official Unity plugin for Claude Code
Unity now ships its own plugin for Claude Code. Two commands install Unity's skills, the Unity CLI and live control of your Editor, so Claude can build scenes, UI and gameplay in a real Unity 6 project.

Short answer: Unity publishes an official plugin for Claude Code. In Claude Code run /plugin marketplace add Unity-Technologies/unity-agent-plugin and /plugin install unity@unity-agent-plugin. It adds Unity's own skills, the Unity CLI and live control of a running Unity 6 Editor.
What the Unity plugin gives Claude
Unity announced its official plugin for Claude Code on September 9, 2026. It installs skills written by the Unity teams that own each feature (project setup, UI, URP post-processing, physics, AI navigation, audio, multiplayer, in-app purchases, localisation, WebGL optimisation and more), the Unity CLI, and live control of a running Editor through the Pipeline package.
Step 1. Install the plugin
In Claude Code (the terminal, or the Code tab of the Claude app):
/plugin marketplace add Unity-Technologies/unity-agent-plugin
/plugin install unity@unity-agent-plugin
In the Claude desktop app you can also use Plugins → Browse → search "Unity" → Install. Not listed? Add → Add marketplace → https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/unity-agent-plugin → Sync → Install. Check it worked: type /unity: and the Unity skills appear in the slash menu.
Step 2. Get Unity 6
You need Unity 6 (6000.x) or newer. Sign in to Unity Hub and activate Unity Personal, which is free for individuals and small teams under $200K in revenue and funding over the last 12 months. For a new game, the plugin's /unity:new-unity-project flow asks about the concept and platforms, installs the Editor and creates the project.
Step 3. Live control of the Editor
unity pipeline install # once per project
unity status # a connected Editor shows "ready"
unity command # list what the Editor exposes
unity command editor_play # enter Play mode
More than one Editor open? Add --project-path <path> to every command.
Rules that save hours
- Ask Claude to read the plugin's own skill before a job, like
/unity:uior/unity:physics-3d-collision. - Compile errors put the Editor in Safe Mode, where the CLI can't connect: fix the errors first.
- Entering Play mode isn't proof it works: have Claude confirm frames advance, capture the view and read the console.
- Commit before every bigger change, and commit Unity's
.metafiles with their assets.
